Youth Leadership Terre Haute was created to assist in:
- Encouraging the retention of youth in this community
- Developing future community leaders
- Strengthening positive attitudes & awareness of the community and its resources
- Empowering and enabling local youth participation in civic affairs and community development
- Fostering social and cultural respect
People aren't born with leadership skills. Just because you're elected or appointed as a leader, it doesn't mean that you're prepared to lead. There is some "equipping" that needs to be done if your leadership role is to be
success
fully carried out.
While this is true of all leaders, it is essential for young people who are thrust into a leadership role.
YLTH has accepted the challenge to play a pivotal role in this equipping for the young leaders of Terre Haute.
Every worthwhile endeavor starts with a vision, and vision is a province of true leaders.
YLTH’s vision is for a community of young people who feel good about their ability to lead, who are familiar with the true value of the Terre Haute community, its services and employers, and who have a sense of belonging and pride as contributing members of this community. Through interaction with community business, education and government leaders, you will become familiar with the essentials of successful leadership.
The YLTH program is developed from the expressed needs of students from their own input and feedback. The educational and business community also contributes to organizing this program.
