Curriculum Information
The ISU Undergraduate Catalog contains the complete description of the curriculum for the MIS major and the MIS minor. Highlights appear here.
The MIS major consists of the business core (44 credit hours taken by all business majors) and 30 additional hours in a variety of subjects. Three courses (9 hours) are major electives and may be selected from a list of classes within MIS as well as in other programs. The seven required courses in the MIS major include:
- MIS 310 - Business Application Development I
- MIS 376 - Business Computer Systems
- MIS 300 - Business Systems Analysis
- MIS 420 - Survey of Database Management
- MIS 430 - Distributed Data Processing (Networking)
- MIS 476 - Management of Information Systems
- ENGL 305 or COMM 215 - an additional communications course
Most of the MIS curriculum is taken in the junior and senior years, after the student has achieved junior standing in business. The business preparation of the pre-business courses gives the MIS student an applied background.
