Management Information Systems
Student Organizations
MISA (Management Information Systems Association) is the student organization for MIS majors, minors, and interested students. MISA meets on a regular basis to discuss topoics of interest of students in information technology disciplines. Typical meetings include guest speakers (including the ISU Chief Information Officer), employers, alumni, and industry practitioners), field trips to information technology departments of firms in the region, professional development and team building activities, and service learning opportunities. Younger students can find out much insight from older students. MISA also gives its members and officers an opportunity to develop leadership skills.
Another organization of interest to MIS students is the MIS Corporate Advisory Board. The advisory board meets twice yearly on campus to discuss current topics, learn about industry needs and future directions, and to give students an opportunity to speak informally with these representatives. About half of the board members are ISU alumni who work in the industry.
The College of Business has many other professional student organizations for its students. While many are associated with majors, like MISA, others are applicable to all areas of business. Delta Sigma Pi and Alpha Kappa Psi are general business fraternities. Beta Gamma Sigma is the honorary for outstanding business majors; membership is by invitation only.
