Music Scholarships
Scholarship Name: Robert Sprenkle Oboe Scholarship
Description: The Robert Sprenkle Oboe Scholarship was established
in 1992 by J. William Denton in memory of Robert Sprenkle. Mr. Sprenkle
was the renowned principal oboist of the Rochester Philharmonic
Orchestra from 1937 to 1985. During that time he was also professor
of oboe at the Eastman School of Music, a position he served with
great distinction. Dr. Denton is a professor of oboe at Indiana
State University and was a student of Mr. Sprenkle.
Open To: undergraduate students
Selection Criteria: The scholarship is open to music majors
whose principal/major instrument is oboe and who demonstrate one
or more of the following: excellence in performance, potential for
excellence in performance, and/or significant financial need.
Award Amount: $500.00 to $1,000.00
Number of Awards Given Annually: 2
How to Apply: The scholarship is awarded based on the audition
and/or performance record in addition to other established criteria.
