Outline of Curricular Requirements:
Review:
Certain review courses may be required on the basis of
the student's scores on the Graduate Music Placement Examinations.
While credit in such courses is counted as a part of the load during
the term(s) in which they are taken, the credit does not count toward
the requirements of the degree.
Research:
Three hours; Music 609, Research in Music (3 hours) or
a research course in any department in the University, if approved
by the Department of Music. Music 609 may be counted among the hours
in related music courses. If the research course is taken in another
department, it may be counted among the 6 hours required outside
the area of specialization.
Residency: An academic
year of residency is required.

Outside The Area Of Specialization:
Six hours of music theory courses and/or composition
courses and/or academic courses outside the Department of Music.
Foreign Language Requirement:
A reading knowledge of German or French must be demonstrated.
Another language, if germane to the student's research, may be substituted
upon approval of Music Theory, History and Literature Division.
Proficiency will be demonstrated by a satisfactory score on the
Graduate School Foreign Language Test.
