Graduate Keyboard Proficiency Examination

Area of Specialization: Music Performance: Voice, and Choral Conducting

Examination Requirements

Letters identify the items selected from the Keyboard Proficiency Examination Master List of Requirements.

A. Without chord symbols, harmonize one folk melody at sight using the I, IV6/4, and V6/5 chords in simple block form. The melody may be plated through once before it is harmonized. Examples will be chosen from major and minor keys with key signatures up to and including three sharps and three flats. (Total of 20 points).

M. Play at sight one easy piano accompaniment for a vocal solo. (Total of 20 points)

U. Play and simultaneously sing a vocalise beginning in C and ascending by half steps throughout the student's vocal range. Examples will be chosen by the examining committee. (Total of 20 points)

V. Play four major or minor (harmonic form) scales from memory, ascending and descending, one octave with right or left hand, using traditional fingering. The four scales will be chosen by the examining committee. (Total of 15 points)

AA. Select and play one moderately easy piano accompaniment for a vocal solo in tempo suitable for performance. (Total of 10 points)
