Lisa Lowry

Soprano Lisa Lowry, from Canada, is an IU doctoral student studying with Andreas Poulimenos. She previously completed a Master’s Degree and Performer Diploma with Patricia Wise at IU. There, she has been soloist for a number of choral works including Heras’ de profundis, Richards’ though under medium, Schumann’s Mass in E-flat, Haydn’s “Harmoniesse”, and Sviridov’s A Pushkin Wreath. She also played Sarah in IU Opera Theater’s Ballad of a Baby Doe. Other opera roles include Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Alice Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff, Naiad and the Zerbinetta cover in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, and Fire in an English L’Enfant et les Sortileges by Ravel. Also at IU, she has been active in the executive of the student NATS organization. She is the group’s recording secretary and helped to organize its second annual Voice Educator’s Symposium where she participated as both performer and academic presenter.

In the past, she taught voice lessons and French Grammar at Southern Virginia University. During that time, she performed Joseph Schwantner’s Sparrows with Land’s End chamber Ensemble in Calgary, Canada under the baton of Hans Graf. She has worked with this conductor previously in the same city with the group Rosa Selvatica performing two Poems of Balmont, Three Japanese Lyrics, and Recollections of Childhood by Stravinsky. Lisa previously sang with Land’s End chamber Ensemble performing new Canadian music, Chansons Madécasses by Ravel and this is a beautiful way by Calgary’s Peter Jancewicz. Lockliar’s The Boswell Songs at the Brevard Music Center and solos in Handel’s Messiah, Dubois’ Seven Last Words of Christ, and Elgar’s The Light of Life in other venues. Now, she is looking forward to being part of the ISU Music program.
