William Denton
Dr. William Denton is a
Professor of Music at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana.
In addition to teaching oboe he teaches courses in Music Theory
and Music Skills. A graduate of the State University of New York
at Fredonia, he also holds a Master of Music from the University
of Illinois, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Oboe Performance and
Literature from the Eastman School of Music. His oboe teachers have
included Daniel McAninch, Blain Edlefsen, Jerry Sirucek, and Robert
Sprenkle.
Dr. Denton is principal oboist with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra
and has appeared on numerous occasions as soloist with the orchestra.
In addition to his orchestral responsibilities, he is a member of
the Indiana State University Faculty Wind Quintet. Dr. Denton is
also principal oboist with the Indiana State University Faculty
Winds and principal oboist with the Philharmonia a Vent. The Faculty
Winds and the Philharmonia a Vent have produced numerous compact
disks and have appeared at several international, national, and
regional conferences as well as on other University campuses. As
a member of the Faculty Wind Quintet, he has recently performed
at MENC, NACWPI and IMEA music conventions. Dr. Denton also appears
as a recitalist, clinician and chamber music performer both on and
off campus. In collaboration with former Lawrence University organist
George Damp, he has performed recitals at Christ Church Cathedral
in Indianapolis and at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and Memorial
United Methodist Church in Terre Haute. He has also performed with
Dr. Damp at several churches in central New York. He and Dr. Damp
have completed a recording of music for oboe and organ at Grace
Episcopal Church in Elmira, New York.
