John Williams

John Williams currently serves as the Director of Athletic Bands at Indiana State University. Prior to this appointment he was an Associate Instructor at Indiana University. He is currently finishing his Doctorate of Music Education with emphasis in college music teaching, instrumental conducting, and music theory. Mr. Williams is an alumnus of Indiana State University graduating in 2009 with a Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting. He also holds a Bachelor of Music from East Tennessee State University.

Mr. Williams previously served as an assistant band director at Cocke County High School in East Tennessee working with middle and high school concert, jazz, and marching bands. Under his direction and assistance, the middle and high school ensembles received top honors at festivals and competitions throughout Tennessee and North Carolina.

Mr. Williams’ current project involves his dissertation investigating the role of ear training and aural skills in high school band directors and their influence on student performance achievement. He holds memberships in the National Bandmasters Association and Kappa Kappa Psi.
