The Rocktoberfest showcase is sponsored and run by the MIA/MEISA student organization during the Fall semester. Every aspect of the event, including band selection, site preparation, technical set-up, advertising, sponsorships, security, ticketing, accounting, and event management is run by the Music Business students who make up MIA/MEISA. Approximately 10 regional bands, chosen through submission of demo recordings judged by Music Business students, compete for prizes and recognition as outstanding emerging bands.
In planning and running these Rocktoberfest activities, Music Business students actively engage the Terre Haute community through advertising and visits to local high schools. Local merchants are solicited and invited to participate as sponsors for the activities. In these ways, Music Business students are not only engaging the community, but they are also practicing the skills that will serve them in their music business careers.
