Spring Fest is the spring semesterís Rocktoberfest equivalent, in many respects. However, being held close to the end of the school year, it takes on a much larger role as a celebration of music and fun. As well as many local and regional bands heard throughout the day, on two stages, this event includes local vendors, games, and plenty of food and refreshments available for sale. Like Rocktoberfest, this event is entirely planned and staged by the members of MIA/MEISA. Interested bands are encouraged to submit demo recordings to MIA/MEISA, which are then heard by a screening committee that selects the performance roster. The bands that are selected to play at Spring Fest compete for prizes and "Best Of..." recognition.
Music Business students advertise and promote Spring Fest to the Terre Haute community. Local merchants are solicited and invited to act as sponsors for the event. The planning, running, and promoting of the Spring Fest not only includes the Terre Haute community in the Music Business programís activities, but also allows students a chance to practice skills that are vital in the music business industry.
Spring Fest is held outside, at ISUís Wolf Field. The event features two stages presenting a variety of musical styles. Like Rocktoberfest, the event serves many functions for music business students, including raising funds for MIA/MEISA activities and, more importantly, serving as an important exercise in concert promotion and event management for the many students aspiring to careers in performance, promotion, and management areas of the music industry. But, even though it serves these great functions for students, it just also happens to be a great time for everyone involved! We hope you can partipate sometime in the very near future.
