Nine Sullivan County schools are connected to each other and ISU via fiber optic cables, thanks to a $5 million grant which is part of the Lilly Endowment's Community Alliances to Promote Education (CAPE). Students can take classes at other schools and earn credit toward college as part of the program.

For years, ISU Physical Education Professor Al Finch has worked closely with U.S. Olympic athletes to analyze their performance in track and other sports. His students at ISU benefit from his work by collaborating with him on research projects and gaining hands-on experience in the field.
