Wind Orchestra and Symphonic Band to perform Oct. 11

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Indiana State University Wind Orchestra and Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 in Tilson Auditorium.

This concert marks the return of ISU director of bands John Boyd, who spent the 2006-2007 academic year as a visiting professor at Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. Boyd served as the first full-time conductor of the Conservatory’s chamber winds ensemble and conducted the Philharmonic Winds of Singapore for two concerts.

The Wind Orchestra, under the direction of Boyd and graduate conductor Kevin Swift, will perform five selections, including Steve Rouse’s “Blaze,” Satoshi Yagisawa’s “Machu Picchu,” and John Phillips Sousa’s “King Cotton.”

The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Randy Mitchell and graduate conductor Eric Drew, will perform five selections, including “Kaddish,” by Frances McBeth; Percy Grainger’s “Shepard’s Hey;” and Henry Fillmore’s “His Honor.”
