Faculty members to perform Feb. 18

February 11 2008

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State University music faculty member Kurt Fowler will be performing on Monday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Center for Performing and Fine Arts, located at Seventh and Chestnut streets.

This program features the cello in three jazz-related pieces. The majority of the program is Claude Bolling’s “Suite for Cello and Jazz Piano Trio,” a 50-minute piece originally written for and recorded by Yo-Yo Ma. The piece features the cello in six movements of wonderfully inventive writing for the small jazz combo. Also on the program is “Spring,” by Indianapolis composer Becky Archibald and “Magic Flight,” by Michael Kallstrom, composer at Western Kentucky University.

Playing alongside Fowler will be music faculty members Paul Bro on saxophone; and Martha Krasnican on piano. Bassist Todd Gallagher and percussionist John DiCenso round out the combo accompanying Fowler.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the ISU Music Department at (812) 237-2772.
