Sponsored by ISU’s Center for Public Service and Community Engagement, the Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education will serve as a forum for the review of research and practice by professionals in higher education in the fields of community engagement and engaged learning practices.
Community engagement has increasingly become a focus for higher education institutions throughout the U.S. and internationally over the past several years, said Nancy Rogers, the center’s director.
“Many universities, like Indiana State, have developed outreach programs and integrated community engagement into teaching and scholarships. As a result, there also has been considerable growth in the scholarship of engagement,†Rogers said.
Supported through a grant from the Lilly Endowment, the journal will focus on literature and case studies emphasizing teaching methods and learning practices, and serves as a forum for dialogue, critical reflection, and analysis of these issues.
“The journal provides not only a publication outlet but serves as a forum for exchange of ideas related to community engagement,†Rogers said. “We have received some international interest and are very pleased about the opportunity to share ideas with those colleagues.â€
The Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education, scheduled to publish in fall 2008, is currently accepting six types of articles for publication in the inaugural issue - perspectives, research and theory, case studies, research notes, book reviews and readers forum. Qualified individuals are also needed to serve on the journal’s editorial board.
Additional information about the journal is available at www1.indstate.edu/jcehe/ . For more information about the editorial board, submissions, instructions and formatting, contact Nancy Rogers at email@example.com or call 812-237-2334. Deadline for submissions is June 30.
