Criminology department officials to meet with criminal justice agency personnel

March 31 2008

TERRE HAUTE -- Indiana State University’s Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice is sponsoring an advisory board meeting with criminal justice professionals to discuss the university’s program on April 4.

“We want to invite the agency professionals in to share what we do as a department, and discuss curriculum matters and how to further improve the employability of our students,” said Shannon Barton, associate professor of criminology and criminal justice.

Professors also plan to discuss with officials innovations within the industry and about the possibility of collaborative research.

The department has invited police chiefs, post commanders, wardens, community corrections, probation and parole directors as well as homeland security personnel from 35 criminal justice agencies in Indiana and Illinois.

The media are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in Hulman Memorial Student Union Room 307.

Criminology and Criminal Justice was recognized as a Program of Distinction through an initiative funded by the Lilly Endowment to recognize ISU's most prominent programs.
