The Concert Band will perform under the direction of Dennis Ballard. Also on the podium during the Concert Band portion of the program will be graduate student conductor Ian Chang, Taipai; and student conductors Adam Allen, Mackey, Ind.; Nadine McKenzie, Springfield, Ill.; Brianna Muir, Fortville; and Lindsay Huddleston, Indianapolis. Doug Keiser will conduct the Symphonic Band; with John Williams, Newport, Tenn., participating as a graduate student conductor.
Charles Rochester Young is the concertâ€™s guest composer.
Young has won high praises and honors for his work as a composer. His works have been performed and broadcasted in Europe, Japan, Central America, Canada, and in major halls in the United States, including Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Works by Young have been recorded by Open Loop, Boston Recordings, Vienna Modern Masters, Sax 4th Avenue, Verona Music Works, Resounding Winds, Klavier and Mark labels.
Young is a graduate of Baylor University and the University of Michigan. He is the chair of Composition and Music Theory at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. In 1999, Young was named "Wisconsin Professor of the Year" by the Carnegie Foundation and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
Among the works to be performed by the Concert Band include Richard Wagnerâ€™s â€œOverture to Die Meistersingerâ€ and Youngâ€™s â€œA Childâ€™s Embrace,â€ â€œLet These Words Ring True (narrated by James Chesterson)â€ and â€œWhere the Waters Gather.â€
Gustav Holstâ€™s â€œSecond Suite in F for Military Band,â€ â€œCajun Folk Songsâ€ by Frank Ticheli and Youngâ€™s â€œNoble Deedsâ€ and â€œConcerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Ensembleâ€ are among several works to be performed by the Symphonic Band.

The Indiana State University Concert Band and Symphonic Band will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. April 10 in Tilson Auditorium.
