Criminology and criminal justice career fair set for April 9

April 7 2008

The 20th annual Criminology Career Fair is set from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday (April 9) in Dede I and II of the Hulman Memorial Student Union.

Lisa Decker, associate professor of criminology and criminal justice, said each year the department is able to build upon the success of the previous year’s job fair with additional agencies seeking more job applicants.

“Many of the recruiters are ISU alumni, and the success and reputation of our graduates in the criminal justice field provides wonderful opportunities for our current students and recent graduates to form contacts and interview for jobs in a relaxed environment,” she said.

Representatives from 26 federal, national and local criminal justice organizations are scheduled to attend the career fair. Organizations include the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; Kentucky State Police; Oakland, Calif., Police Department; Indiana State University Police Department; Target Asset Protection; and the U.S. Marine Corps.

“The fields of national security, civil liberties and law enforcement are so important in today’s society, and the jobs in these markets are growing exponentially,” she said. “The department of criminology and criminal justice is proud that it can link former students and employers with current students in a way that is beneficial to all.”

The fair is open to the public and is an ideal environment for students and graduates who are interested in a career in criminology or criminal justice.
