Cockrell named 2009 ISA Society President

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State University professor Gerald Cockrell has been elected to serve as the president of The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA) for 2009.

“In my new position, I hope to continue the efforts already started on the Society Workforce Development initiative. My specific focus will be to increase the level of society participation by scholars, researchers, and educators. This population will help continue to energize the profession by enticing young members to become part of this exciting field. The continued development of programs and services under the workforce development initiative will help move ISA and the automation profession forward,” Cockrell said.

Cockrell serves as coordinator of both a Ph.D in Technology Management and a Master of Science degree in Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation at Indiana State. He is also presently project manager and principle investigator on a major National Science Foundation grant for the university. He has served as an automation consultant to many industries.

Throughout his career, he has developed a number of programs and courses to serve students in the automation field. He completed a book published by ISA in project management. He has authored a number of scholarly papers and presented at several international conferences.

Cockrell joined ISA in 1985 and is currently a member of the Indianapolis section.

Cockrell is a graduate of Indiana University, Indiana State University, and Danville Area Community College in Danville, Ill. He holds the designation as an ISA Certified Automation Professional and was honored with the Eckman award in 2006.

He was awarded the Indiana State University Presidents Medal in 2000 for meritorious service. He is a member of the National Association of Industrial Technology and the American Radio Relay League and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
