Indiana State University will welcome students and their families this weekend for the start of the 2008-09 school year and the city of Terre Haute will also extend the welcome mat by offering free parking.
Complimentary parking will be available in the newly-opened Cherry Street Multi-Modal Transportation Facility. The parking and transit facility is located at the southeast edge of campus, across from Hulman Center, site of many back-to-campus events.
Special parking passes will be distributed at key locations across campus. These passes must be turned in to city parking attendants in order to take advantage of the complimentary parking, which will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday (Aug. 15-16) and 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 17).
"Families often need a place to park their cars after moving their sons or daughters into residence halls and the Cherry Street facility provides a convenient location," said John Beacon, ISU's vice president for enrollment management, marketing and communications.
"The university has long enjoyed a great working relationship with the city and we are grateful to Mayor Duke Bennett's administration and the city's Board of Public Works and Safety for making this impressive new facility available to students and their families at no charge during one of the busiest weekends of the school year," Beacon said.
Commuter students will also find the complimentary parking convenient for the university's new student Convocation event at Hulman Center at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Parking passes will be available at the following locations/events:
- Hulman Memorial Student Union information desk
- Residence halls
- Residential Life office
- Financial Aid office
- Laptop distribution in Heritage Lounge
- Welcome Center
- Office of Information Technology tent
- Public Safety office
- Hulman Center
