Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble Present Concert Oct. 16

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Indiana State University Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will present a concert featuring acclaimed Chinese trumpeter Dai Zhonghui on Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Tilson Auditorium.

John Boyd, director of ISU Bands, will conduct the Wind Ensemble in Chen Dan's "Capriccio," Alfred Reed's "Second Suite for Band" and george Bizet's "Carmen Fantasia," which will feature Zhonghui and ISU faculty member Robert Waugh on trumpet.

Doug Keiser, associate director of ISU Bands, will conduct the Symphonic Band in Mark Camphouse's "Three London Minatures," "Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song" by Samuel Hazo, Pierre Leemans' "March des Parachutistes Belges" and a Greek Folk song set.

Zhonghui, a nationally acclaimed as a performer and brass instructor, has held the position of principal trumpet of the National Symphony Orchestra of China for the past 10 years. With this orchestra, he has performed in Germany, England, Austria, South America, Australia, Japan, Spain, Holland, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and more than twenty cities in mainland China. He joined the faculty of the Central Conservatory of Music in 2002, and is the trumpet professor, head of Brass and the founder and Director of the Central Conservatory Brass Ensemble. He is also the director and conductor of the Central Conservatory of Music Symphonic Winds Orchestra.

Zhonghui served as Visiting Associate Professor of Trumpet at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of National University of Singapore in 2006/2007 academic year. He serves as president of China Trumpet Guild, vice president of Chinese Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles and is a member of the International Trumpet Guild Board of Directors.

The concert is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the concert provided by ISU's Kappa Kappa Psi colony.
