Hoosier native Michael Kelsey to Perform at ISU Nov. 4

October 20 2008

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Guitarist Michael Kelsey will return to Indiana State University to conduct a songwriter's clinic and perform Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the Recital Hall of the Center for Performing Arts at Seventh and Chestnut streets.

The clinic, "Learn to Take your Creativity to a New Level," will begin at 6 p.m. and is open to the public. Cost to attend the clinic is $10 in advance or $12 at the door, which includes admission to his 7 p.m. performance. Tickets for the performance are $5 in advance or $7 at the door.

A native of Lafayette, Kelsey cut his musical teeth on electric lead and bass guitars in a variety of cover bands from progressive jazz to rock. Prior to pursuing a solo career, he spent five years as a recording engineer and arranger. After placing as a finalist in a Guitar Player Magazine\'s national competition, he switched from electric to acoustic guitar to take advantage of the broader variety of sounds, moods and nuances.

He has toured nationally with Blind Melon and Dishwalla and has shared the stage with everyone from Adrian Legg to John Wesley Harding. He has performed at Eric Clapton\'s Crossroads Blues Festival in Dallas and has supported such acts as Clapton, Jeff Beck, Santana, Pat Metheny, B.B King as well as sharing the stage with Tim Reynolds, Cowboy Junkies, The Bodeans, and John Wesley Harding.

Kelsey's appearance is a fundraiser for ISU's Music Industry Association (MIA), a student professional organization associated with the ISU's music business program. This fundraiser assists the groups with various music business field trips and their attendance at the International Music Products Association trade show in California every January. It also provides good experience for students who are interested in venue or concert management.
