Professor receives achievement award

November 5 2008

Timothy Mulkey, associate professor of life sciences at Indiana State University, recently received the Honorary Life Award at the 52nd annual meeting of ACUBE, Association of College and University Biology Educators.

The meeting was held on Oct. 16-18 at Hopkinsville Community College in Hopkinsville, Ky. This award is presented to an ACUBE member who has made significant contributions and/or service to ACUBE and the advancement of the society's mission.

Mulkey has been a member of the organization for 22 years. During that time, he served for seven years as editor of its publication, "Bioscene: Journal of College Biology Teaching," which is published three times a year. During his term, he elevated the publication to a higher professional level, including introducing a colored version containing well refereed articles. Mulkey also scanned earlier publications, from 1957 until he became editor and continued through 2005 entering them on the Web.

He was a member of the ACUBE governing board for 15 years, as well as presented numerous workshops and papers at the annual meetings. He also served as president of the organization and as program coordinator for an annual meeting, which was held at Indiana State University.
