November 10 2008

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Indiana State University Wind Orchestra and Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 in Tilson Auditorium.

Graduate conductors Sheng-Yi Chang, Eric Drew and John Williams will take the baton for two pieces - Roger Cichy's "Interpretations" and Ralph Vaughan Williams' "English Folk Song Suite" -- to fulfill requirements for their master's in music degree.

The Wind Orchestra, under the direction of John Boyd, will perform Richard Strauss' "Concerto No.1 for Horn," orchestrated for wind orchestra by Boyd, director of ISU Bands. Alex Lapins, a member of the music faculty, will be the soloist for that piece. The orchestra will also present the premier Indiana performance of "Celestial Dancers" by Eric Ewazen.

The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Doug Keiser, will perform "Cenotaph" by Jack Stamp, Anthony Suter's "Dancing at Stonehenge," and "Americans We" by Henry Fillmore.

The concert is free and open to the public. A reception hosted by Kappa Kappa Psi will follow. For more information, contact the music department at 812-237-2771.
