Even the most dedicated teachers need to break free of their regular classroom routine and stimulate their grey cells. For three days, some of the most innovative schoolteachers from across Indiana will come together to super-charge their batteries during the Lilly Teacher Creativity Workshop at Indiana State University, July 31-Aug. 2.
Funded by the Lilly Endowment Inc. and offered to educators who have been awarded Lilly Teacher Creativity Fellowship grants, the workshop offers participants the opportunity to share personal experiences on original projects, explore uses of technology in the classroom and learn from fellow recipients from across the state.
"We believe that this workshop affords a particular set of teachers in Indiana a unique opportunity to grow and develop," said Susan Powers, associate dean of ISU's College of Education. "It allows teachers to start the school year renewed and refreshed, and brimming with new ideas."
Faculty from Indiana State, along with judges from the Lilly Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program, will provide technical assistance and support for approximately 100 program participants.
Participants will collaborate on group projects involving their creativity fellowship projects, learn about technology, develop curriculum, work on personal sketchbooks and participate in a writer's workshop.
Teachers work in one of five groups:
- small groups of 3 or 4 focused on the development of integrated curriculum surrounding the Fellowship projects
- a technology group focused on collaborative exploration of educational technology
- a writer's workshop
- a curriculum development workshop
- a sketchbook workshop
