ISU Alumnus to perform Sept. 26

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State University alumnus Damien Geter will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 in the Recital Hall of ISU's Center for Performing and Fine Arts.

The vocal performance will feature works by Brahms, Duparc, Ned Rorem, and ISU composition faculty member Daniel Powers. He will be accompanied by pianist Martha Krasnican.

Geter, originally from Chesterfield County, VA, received his bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University in 2002 and a master's degree from Indiana State University in 2004. After leaving Indiana State, he made his professional opera debut as the Imperial Commissioner in Puccini's Madama Butterfly with the Indianapolis Opera. During the summer of 2005, he performed the roles of Don Alfonso in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Graf Canero in Johann Strauss' Der Zieguernerbaron. In the summer of 2006, he was accepted into the Aspen Music Festival and School where he covered the role of Dr. Gibbs in the western premier of Ned Rorem's Our Town. In Indianapolis, Geter sang with Indy VoiceWorks, (formerly known as Cantabile!) for its 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons and continues to sing with the Indianapolis Opera Chorus. He presently is the bass section leader for Church of the Nativity in Indianapolis and is the music instructor at University High School in Carmel.
