Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band to perform Oct. 12

October 4 2006

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Indiana State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 in Tilson Auditorium.

Featured on the program will be "Grant Them Eternal Rest," a five movement setting of the requiem mass for winds and percussion. This piece is being performed in memory of the victims of the recent school shootings in Nickel Mines, Penn. The composer of "Grant Them Eternal Rest" is Andrew Boysen Jr., a former ISU faculty member, who originally wrote the work to commemorate those who died needlessly on Sept. 11, 2001.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble will open the concert with the original brass and percussion version of Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" and close with William Schuman's "New England Triptych."

The Symphonic Band will perform "Rhosymedr" by Vaughan Williams, "Chorale and Shaker Dance" by Zdechlik, and the famous Edwin Franko Goldman march "On the Mall."

Conductors of the Symphonic Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble are Doug Keiser and Dan Peo. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the music department at (812)237-2772.
