Musicians Ruotao Mao and Tomoko Kanamaru, assisted by Indiana State University music faculty member Brian Kilp, will perform as part of the ISU Visiting Artist Concert Series at 5 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Recital Hall of ISU?s Center for Performing and Fine Arts, located at the corner of Seventh and Chestnut streets.
Mao and Kanamaru will perform Clara Schumann's "Three Romances for Violin and Piano, Op.22," "F.A.E. Sonata for Violin and Piano" and Johannes Brahms' "Horn Trio in E-flat Major, Op 40."
Mao, a native of Beijing, is one of the founding members of the former Beijing Piano Quartet. As a soloist, he appeared with orchestras such as the Jupiter Symphony, NEC Symphony, Corelliard Chamber Orchestra, Brunswick Symphony Orchestra, Riverside Symphonia, Edison Symphony, Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, and Rutgers University Orchestra, among many others. He performed on WNYC broadcasts and is a recording artist for the CRI and Beijing Broadcast Labels. Mao, a violinist, serves as the concertmaster of the Delaware Valley Philharmonic Orchestra, Riverside Symphonia, Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, and Edison Symphony Orchestra.
Since her first solo appearance with a professional orchestra in Tokyo at the age of nine, Kanamaru has been performing on stages in the United States, Europe, Canada, and Japan. She has recorded for the Nippon (Japan) Columbia label and for several radio broadcasts and has appeared in the U.S. as a soloist with the Savannah Symphony Orchestra (Georgia) and the National Repertory Orchestra (Colorado). In addition to her performing activities, Kanamaru has co-edited more than thirty volumes of educational piano music published by the Yamaha Music Foundation, while contributing articles and essays to major music magazines in Japan.
