Child Abuse Prevention Council proposed

February 13 2006

The Community Partnership for Child Well-Being will conduct a public forum from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Landsbaum Center for Health Education, 1433 N. 6 1/2 Street, to discuss establishing a Child Abuse Prevention Council for Vigo County or the Wabash Valley.

Terre Haute is one of only two metropolitan areas in Indiana that does not have such a council. Vigo County has the state's highest overall poverty rate, and the second-highest child poverty rate. There were 1,213 allegations of child abuse in the county in 2003. The organization of a Child Abuse Prevention Council is a step in helping to reduce these numbers.

Registration for the event will begin at 5:30 p.m., with light refreshments served at that time.
