Indiana State University's Fitness for Life physical education class is sponsoring a 5K Fun Run for the ISU and Terre Haute communities.
The run will take place at 4 p.m. April 17, 2007, on the ISU campus. Registration is at 3 p.m. in the Arena, 621 N. Fifth St. In case of rain, the race will be held April 18. The first 3 male and first 3 female finishers will receive prizes. There is a $3 entry fee.
Nancy Cummins, physical education instructor at Indiana State, said the 5K Fun Run is held every semester. The PE students run in the event, and graduate students help by standing throughout the course giving directions.
"When students hear 5K, they think marathon," Cummins said, "so it's good to get the students out there, and they realize they can run a 5K."
The goal is to have 300 runners and raise $1,000 for charity, Cummins said.
"We let the students vote on a charity to give the money to, after giving them information about different ones," she said. This year, the students chose the American Cancer Society.
The proceeds from the PE 101 Fun Run will be presented to the American Cancer Society during the Relay for Life, to be held at the Student Recreation Field on Saturday, April 21.
In the past, proceeds have gone to Habitat for Humanity and March of Dimes.
