Family Day is Sept. 22

September 5 2007

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State University will host its annual Family Day on Saturday, Sept. 22. This annual event is an opportunity for ISU students to show their appreciation for the important role that families play in their education and their lives.

There will be open recreation in the Arena from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including gymnasium, indoor/outdoor track, racquetball court, swimming pool and tennis. Families can also access board games and play pool at Sycamore Lounge, located in Hulman Memorial Student Union.

From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. there will be a Favorite Recipe Brunch, open to all parents and families of both residential and commuter students. The menu includes a self-serve breakfast/lunch buffet. Tickets are $6 per person. ISU students may use their meal plan. Advance tickets may be purchased from Student Activities and Organizations.

Hulman Memorial Student Union and Student Activities and Organizations will host bingo, an ice cream social, and the annual Family-Look-Alike contest. Families will have a chance to meet Sycamore Sam and get a family portrait with him. Be sure to pick up your special discount coupon for the ISU Bookstore, available at the registration table!

Various departments and organizations will host open houses throughout the day. Attendees are encouraged to check the schedule at the Family Day registration and information table for times and locations.

Burford, Blumberg and Cromwell residence halls will have open houses from 10 a.m. to noon to provide families a chance to see their student’s home away from home as well as learn about the services offered to first-year students.

Families are invited to enjoy the gospel sounds of the Ebony Majestic Choir as they practice, from noon-2 p.m. at African American Cultural Center.

The fun isn’t confined to campus. Later in the day the celebration moves out to Memorial Stadium, host of Sycamore football and tailgate cookout. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. with a tailgate cookout and kids zone activities. ISU kicks off against Eastern Illinois at 6 p.m.

For $10 per person participants will receive a meal, game ticket and an ISU spirit item. The first 100 individuals who reserve tickets will also be eligible for an ISU t-shirt.

Individual tickets for the football game will be available at the Memorial Stadium Ticket Office. Cost is $8 for adults and $3 for youth (ages 6-18).

Families are encouraged to visit the Terre Haute Street Fair in conjunction with Family Day. The downtown streets will be filled with the sounds of live music, food, arts and car displays.
