TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Indiana State University department of music will present its Fall Choral Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 in Centenary United Methodist Church, 301 N. Seventh Street.
The concert will include the ISU Concert Choir, Women's Choir and Sycamore Singers. A wide variety of repertoire will be performed, including a composition by Nancy Cobb Lippens, the new department chairperson.
"We are very pleased to have Dr. Cobb Lippens join our faculty," said Scott Buchanan, ISU director of choral activities. "She is going to provide wonderful leadership for our department. In a very short period of time, she has earned the respect of the faculty and our students.
"She is recognized as an outstanding composer of choral music," Buchanan added. " I am pleased to open this concert with one of her works, O Clap Your Hands. It is a very powerful, energetic work with a text taken from Psalm 47."
Also on the program, the ISU Concert Choir will perform works by contemporary composers Joshua Shank and Darla Eshelman. The group will also perform an arrangement of "Two Chinese Melodies" and an arrangement of the West African Folksong, "Kpanlongo."
"The repertoire for this concert is very diverse and challenging," Buchanan said. "I think the audience will enjoy the variety."
The Women's Chorale and Sycamore Singers, both under the direction of Mark Carlisle, will also be featured on the program. The Women's Chorale will feature works by John Leavitt, Laura Farnell, and Z. Randall Stroope. The Sycamore Singers will offer selections by Giovanni Palestrina, David Conte, Randall Thompson, in addition to an arrangement of "Amazing Grace," by Greg Jasperse.
