Indiana State to host Diversity Research and Teaching Symposium on Nov. 6

Indiana State University will showcase interdisciplinary research in the areas of diversity during the Diversity Research and Teaching Symposium Saturday, Nov. 6 from 8 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. in Hulman Memorial Student Union, Dede I.

The day-long event will feature 47 seminars and workshops presented by faculty, staff and students, covering topics such as gender diversity in the workplace, separate but equal activities, teaching history through family stories, and developing minority administrators.

Barbara Love, associate professor emerita at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will deliver the keynote presentation. Love consults internationally on empowerment of women, especially women of color and has published widely on issues such as internalized racism and building alliances for change. A former teacher with an academic background in History and Political Science, she has worked closely with schools and school systems throughout the U.S. and abroad. Her education background includes teacher education and staff development, curriculum development, and multicultural organizational development.
