Indiana State University has awarded University Honors Scholarships to 40 outstanding freshmen who will begin their studies this fall.
Students selected for these highly competitive scholarships must demonstrate high levels of academic achievement throughout high school and during an on-campus interview competition.Specifically, students must have at least two of the following: a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.7 on a 4.0 scale, an 1100 SAT or 24 ACT and a ranking within the top 10 percent of their high school class.
Scholars are honored with an annual award of $5,000 for four years. Recipients are as follows:
Eric Barber, son of Kris Barber and Tami Barber of Rolling Prairie. He is a New Prairie High School alumni majoring in business administration.
Kara Couwenhoven, daughter of Lisa Couwenhoven and Robert Couwenhoven of Beecher, Ill. She is a graduate of Beecher High School and plans to major in marketing or communication.
Cassie Cox, daughter of Tobie Cox and Jeff Cox and Scarlett Kincade and Rick Kincade. A resident of De Motte and graduate of North Newton High School, she is majoring in Speech-Language Pathology.
Cara Cribelar, daughter of Cheryl Cribelar and Paul Cribelar of Martinsville, Ill. A graduate of Martinsville High School, Cara plans to pursue a degree in nursing.
Abby Cunning, daughter of Lyn Cunning and Frank Cunning of Terre Haute. She is a graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School and intends to further her studies by majoring in music performance.
Landon Curry, son of Brian Curry and Kristi Curry of Uniondale. He is a graduate of Norwell High School majoring in accounting.
Daniel Dalton, son of David Dalton and Pauline Dalton of Oakland City. He is a graduate of Waldo J. Wood Memorial High School and will major in chemistry.
Jillian Dixon, daughter of Susan Dixon and Scott Dixon of Griffith. A graduate of Griffith High School, she intends to pursue a degree in nursing.
Emily Dransfield, daughter of Michelle Earley and Mike Dransfield of Terre Haute. A Terre Haute North Vigo High School graduate, she plans to study nursing.
Desiree Edwards, daughter of DeAnne Edwards and David Edwards of Paris, Ill. She is a Paris Cooperative High School alumna and plans to major in human resource development.
Hannah Fisher, daughter of Laura Fisher and Keith Fisher of New Palestine. She recently graduated from Triton Central and intends to study criminal justice and psychology.
Meghan Francis, daughter of Karen Francis and Larry Francis of Bloomingdale. A graduate of Turkey Run High School, she plans to major in elementary education.
Kacie Fritz, daughter of Carol Fritz and Jeff Fritz of Clay City. A graduate of Clay City High School, she intends to major in nursing.
Jacquelyn Gary, daughter of Karen Gary and Steve Gary of Indianapolis. She is a Lawrence Central alumna pursuing a major in business.
Kelsie Gregg, daughter of Tammi Gregg and Randy Gregg of Evansville. A Benjamin Bosse High School alumna, she plans to major in athletic training.
Ashley Haack, daughter of Tara Haack and Henry Haack of Westville. She is a graduate of Westville High School and intends to study criminal justice. Ciara Hall, daughter of Claire Hall and Tom Hall of Terre Haute. She is a graduate of Terre Haute South Vigo High School.
Shannon Hamilton, daughter of Jean Hamilton and Dan Hamilton of Highland. A Highland High School alumna, Shannon will study either athletic training or education.
Hallie Harbison, daughter of Audrey Harbison and Blain Harbison of Brazil. A graduate of Northview High School, she plans to major in pre-medicine.
Samantha Herman, daughter of Melody Hardy and Andrew Herman of Olney, Ill. She is a graduate of East Richland High School and intends to major in interior design.
Simone Hill, daughter of Tracey Elizabeth Hill of Temple Hills, Md. She is a graduate of Potomac High School and intends to major in operations management and analysis.
Meghan Hoskins, daughter of Margie Hoskins and Joseph Hoskins of Mooresville. A Mooresville High School alumna, Meghan plans to major in English.
Mariyam Houston, daughter of Jamileh Farid-Houston and Randall Houston of Terre Haute. An alumna of Terre Haute North Vigo High School, she plans to study pre-medicine and mathematics.
Mercedees Leister, daughter of Mary Leister and Jeff Leister of Clinton. A South Vermillion High School graduate, Mercedees hopes to major in chemistry.
Macy Mayle, daughter of Lori Mayle and Mike Mayle of Brazil. Macy is a graduate of Northview High School planning to major in biology.
Tanner McCarty, son of Steve McCarty and Sandy McCarty of Wabash. He is a graduate of Northfield High School and plans to study communication.
Samantha McGraw, daughter of Linda McGraw and Greg McGraw of Broken Arrow, Okla. She is a graduate of Union High School pursuing a major in physical therapy.
Aubrie Musselman, daughter of Jolene Musselman and Scott Musselman of Buffalo, Wyo. She is a psychology major and Buffalo High School alumna.
Annie Newkirk, daughter of Denise Newkirk and Frank Newkirk of Salem. She is majoring in art and art education and a graduate of Salem High School.
Kelsey Noble, daughter of Tammy Noble and Grant Noble of Orleans. She is a graduate of Orleans Junior-Senior High School.
Jordan O'Connor, daughter of Diana O'Connor and Glenn O'Connor of Fort Wayne. She is a graduate of Carroll High School and plans to study nursing.
Samantha Rivera, daughter of Bev Rivera and Jaime Rivera of Greensburg. She is a graduate of Greensburg Community High School majoring in nursing.
Brittany Roberts, daughter of Lynn Roberts and Herbie Roberts of Marshall, Ill. A Marshall High School alumna, she plans to study criminal justice.
Delanie Seward, daughter of Kelli Seward and Dan Seward of Marshall, Ind. A graduate of Turkey Run High School, she intends to study meteorology.
Andrew Spangler, son of Suzanne Spangler of Morocco. He is a graduate of North Newton Junior Senior High School planning to major in communication.
James Steele, son of James Steele and Cindy Steele of Covington. He is a North Vermillion High School graduate and intends to major in music education.
Austin Thomas, son of Patrick Thomas and Anna Thomas of Clinton. He is a graduate of South Vermillion High School majoring in biology.
Makenzie Utterback, daughter of Tarita Lough and Paul Utterback of Terre Haute. She is a Terre Haute North Vigo High School graduate majoring in psychology.
Christa Whitehurst, daughter of Kelly Fansler and Allen Whitehurst of Mooresville. A graduate of Mooresville High School, Christa plans to major in elementary education.
Aaron Windell, son of Darrin Windell and Leah Windell of Corydon. He is a graduate of Corydon Central High School and pursuing a major in business management.
