Alumni and community members are invited to join Indiana State University in raising funds for Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity's 57th house.
On Wednesday, May 23, a special fund-raising dinner, "Houses for Habitat," will take place in the Sycamore Banquet Center, located in former bookstore space in the Hulman Memorial Student Union.
The evening will include a 6 p.m. reception and silent auction of decorated birdhouses sponsored by various individuals and campus groups. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., followed by a live auction with Vigo County School Corporation Superintendent Danny Tanoos as auctioneer. The auction will feature birdhouses decorated by professional designers, contractors and architects.
Table sponsorships for eight guests are available beginning at $300 with individual tickets available for $50.
The 57th home will be built by Indiana State in the Ryves Neighborhood in conjunction with a partnership between the institution and several non-profit agencies and organizations that serve the neighborhood.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to help a deserving family, revitalize a neighborhood and to demonstrate our institutional commitment to community service and outreach," said Nancy Rogers, associate vice president for community engagement and experiential learning . "Our hope is that students will participate and it will serve as a trigger for conversations about poverty and housing."
