Indiana State University recently honored the achievements of female faculty members and celebrated the 92nd anniversary of women's right to vote.
2012 Charlotte Zietlow Woman Faculty Research Grants went to Lakesha Anderson, assistant professor of communication; Azizi Arrington-Bey, assistant professor of interior architecture design; Barbara Eversole, assistant professor of human resource development; and Tina Kruger, assistant professor of applied health sciences.
Zietlow, a member of the university's board of trustees from 1989 to 2005, established the grant as part of an endowment to support female faculty members in their work to achieve tenure.
"We rightly recognize that every step towards parody in that achievement progresses a gap that has proceeded for three decades nearly without change," Darlene Hantzis, professor of communication, said during the Aug. 27 Equality Day ceremony in which the awards were presented.
Ann Rider, professor of German and women's studies, also spoke.
"We take this time to remember and celebrate the passage of the 19th amendment of the constitution of the United States which ensures American women the right to vote." she said. "We also take the time to remind ourselves of the challenges women still face in the nation today - here and around the world."
The day concluded with a march across campus in support of women's equality by faculty members, staff, students, administrators, and university first lady Cheri Bradley.
