Indiana State University's annual Take Back the Night rally, which brings awareness of the problem of sexual assault, will take place at 6 p.m. Nov. 27 in Hulman Memorial Student Union Dede I.
The rally, which is sponsored by the Women Studies Student Activism in Theory and Practice class, will be followed by a march through campus. The purpose of Take Back the Night is to increase awareness of sexual assaults to students, faculty and the surrounding community of Terre Haute.
"I never realized the seriousness of violence against women before taking this class. I now realize the importance of advocating for causes like this," said Maria Martinson, a senior majoring in exercise science from Vincennes, Ind.
The group also is seeking donations for CODA (Council on Domestic Abuse). Donations needed for CODA include: toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, dishwashing soap, socks, sweat pants, sweat shirts, rolls of stamps, and Terre Haute bus passes. These items can be brought to DEDE I between 6 and 7:15 p.m.
