Author Erik Larson and screenwriter Christopher Kyle described the process of bringing a novel to the silver screen while speaking to a capacity crowd in Dede I during their visit to Indiana State University of Feb. 12 as part of ISU's Speakers Series. Kyle, who attended ISU’s Lab school and graduated from Terre Haute South High School, is currently working on a screenplay based on Larson’s current bestseller, “The Devil in the White City” for Tom Cruise’s production company, Cruise/Wagner Productions. He earned his bachelor degree from ISU in 1987 and completed his master’s degree in 1988. Larson, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University, worked in the publishing, newspaper and magazine industries before finding his stride as an author. He is currently a contributing writer for Time Magazine. Along with classroom visits, Kyle, Larson and filmmaker John Borowski - who recently completed a documentary film on H.H. Holmes - also visited “World’s Columbian Exposition: Revisiting the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair,” presented by The Indiana State University Permanent Art Gallery in the Gallery Lounge of Hulman Memorial Student Union until March 21, 2004. This exhibition showcases items related to the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition and H.H. Holmes. To view images of Kyle, Larson and Borowski as they visit to gallery, click here.
