Welcome to the National Inclusive Martial Arts Academy (NIMAA) web site.
The Academy is a new project based at Indiana State University, utilizing faculty and resources of the departments of Recreation and Sport Management and Physical Education's Martial Arts program.
Our vision is two-fold:
To provide a comprehensive service to the martial arts community that will enable instructors and practitioners to include students with disabilities in their programs.
To facilitate the involvement of
persons with disabilities in the martial arts.
We anticipate using these methods:
Conducting Research in the following areas;
- Adapting martial arts techniques
- Value of martial arts participation
- Instruction methods
Developing a website that will identify instructors/schools prepared and/or willing to work with students with disabilities.
Develop instructional materials, such as videos, manuals and posters.
1. To provide Martial Arts schools and instructors with information and support they need in order to effectively include and instruct students with disabilities.
2. Encourage and facilitate people with disabilities' participation in the martial arts.
