What are foundational studies and when do I take them?

The Foundational Studies program at Indiana State University is committed to providing students with a high quality education that will develop their intellectual abilities while providing them with the skills and knowledge base they will need to successfully navigate the complexities of the twenty-first century.

A robust Foundational Studies Program is the cornerstone of this goal.  Together nursing and the Foundational Studies curriculum prepare you to be an effective communicator, critical thinker, and an informed decision maker. The Foundational Studies curriculum also exposes you to multiple "ways of knowing" (e.g. scientific, social or behavioral, historical, literary, fine and performing arts, etc.) that will help you better understand the world in which you live.

Foundational Studies courses are to be taken throughout the nursing curriculum.  Some are required to be taken during a certain timeframe or prior to certain courses.  Specific information is available online or from one's academic advisor.
