What is General Education* and when do I take it?

The General Education program* at Indiana State University is designed to enhance students' English composition, oral communication, mathematic, information technology and foreign language skills.

General Education* has been developed to improve students' physical fitness for life as well as their capacities for independent thinking, critical analysis, reasoned inquiry, writing, speaking, reading, and listening.

General Education* is also intended to enhance students' capacities for making informed judgments and responsible choices and to help prepare them to meet the challenges of their post-collegiate lives.

General Education courses* are to be taken throughout the nursing curriculum.  Some are required to be taken during a certain timeframe or prior to certain courses.  Specific information is available online or from one's academic advisor.

*Revisions to the General Education Program are in process.  The new Foundational Studies Program will be in effect for those students entering ISU beginning Fall 2010.
