Recipients

Shirley Hanley graduated from Lewis Clark State College with a BSN in 2000.  She is currently working toward a graduate degree at Indiana State University to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.  A lifelong Idaho resident Shirley now lives in Marsing, Idaho with her husband and daughters ages 6 and 3.  She works full time at a local long term care facility where she has worked for the last 5 years as an RN supervisor.  Upon graduation Shirley hopes to stay in geriatrics but she is open to new opportunities.  Shirley feels honored to be selected as a recipient of this scholarship and would like to sincerely thank the scholarship committee for this award.

Chaundel Presley is a distance learning student from Lafayette, TN who is pursuing her DNP. She graduated from Belmont University with her BSN in 1992, and her MSN in 1995. She has worked as a family nurse practitioner in her home town providing primary care since that time. She also works as a regional clinical coordinator for FNP students in KY and TN. Chaundel decided to take this leap to the DNP to enhance her ability to provide quality clinical care to her patients as well as the ability to serve as a clinical educator.  She is honored to have been chosen for the Earl E. Maynard Scholarship and would like express a heartfelt thank you to the scholarship committee.

Wendi Harper-Lonabaugh received a B.S. in Design from Drexel University in 1991.  She received an A.S. in Respiratory Therapy from Greenville Technical College in 1997.  She worked as a respiratory therapist from 1995 until 2005.  She received her A.S. in nursing from Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College in 2007.  In 2010, she received an MSN in nursing education at Gardner-Webb University and is currently working on a post Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner certificate.  She currently works as an RN in substance abuse.  She lives with her husband, four children, and three dogs.  She is very thankful for this scholarship and plans to work in a rural family practice health clinic when she graduates in December 2012.

Deanna Leger-Woods would like to take this time to thank the scholarship selection committee and donors for giving her a generous gift to continue her education.  Although her career started later in life than expected, Deanna started her health care career as a mother of a special needs child, from there she obtained her Vocational Nursing licensure in 2003 and continued and obtained an RN Associate Degree in 2005.  She furthered her education by obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2009. She has decided to obtain her Masters in the area of Family Nurse Practitioner from Indiana State University and is currently scheduled to complete this program in December 2012. Also, she is planning to continue her education here at ISU post-graduate to attain her education certification as well.

Kara Taylor lives in Holland, Michigan. Kara graduated from Grand Valley State University with a BSN in 2002. She works in Grand Rapids, Michigan part time as a labor and delivery nurse. Kara is completing course work towards a Master’s degree at Indiana State University. Kara’s goal is to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Kara has four children and enjoys spending every second she is not studying with her family. Kara is truly appreciative and thankful for the award.
