Computer Network Connection

Indiana State’s high-speed data network offers students living in residence halls connectivity of up to 10 Mbps to the desktop. You can set up your own computer to establish your data connection. Instructions on configuring your computer to access the Indiana State Network are located on the Getting Started CD. This CD is available from the Help Desk or from the Start of School Tent, August 20-23. Please refer to the diagram below on the various outlets provided in your residence hall room. All residence hall rooms have an active data and cable TV outlet. Data ports accept RJ-45 connections as opposed to the smaller RJ-11 connectors your phone will use.

It is important to remember that when your computer is connected to the Internet a number of potential threats exists to your computer. Please refer to the Safe Computing section, found on page 13 of this guide, for more information on how to protect your computer. In addition, page 16 contains information on the installation of the Cisco Clean Access Agent on your computer. This software will need to be installed if you wish to access external Web sites.
