Smartphone tips

Q1. What support for smartphones does OIT provide?
OIT provides information about the mail systems that is needed to configure smartphone access which can be found in question two below. Because of the large number of phone models and vendors, each working just a bit differently, the user must contact their phone vendor for support and help with configuration.

Q2. What information will I need to configure my phone to access the ISU Exchange email system?
The settings below should be used configure your Corporate Sync account on your phone to use the ISU Exchange email system. The following information pertains to faculty and staff phones only.

Email Server Name: webmail.indstate.edu
Domain: isuad
Username: Your Portal ID (you may need to add the domain to the front of your username, e.g., isuad\jdoe
Password: Your Portal Password



Q3. If I change my password on the MyISU portal does it automatically synch to my smartphone?
No, your ISU passwords will not automatically synch when you change your MyISU portal password – it is the users responsibility to manually change the password on your smartphone. These passwords do not automatically synch so anytime you change your MyISU portal password you will need to manually change the password on your smartphone as well.

Q4. What do I do if I changed my Portal password from my smartphone and now I am having login issues?
Contact the Help Desk (2910) to have your account reset. You should never try to reset your Portal password from your phone as it will cause login in issues.

Q5. What if my phone stops synching email from my ISU email account?
If you changed your MyISU portal password lately you will need to change your smartphone password as well (see Q3).
If you downloaded any new apps or had an operating system update recently you should turn your smartphone off and on to see if this fixes the problem.
Try turning your phone off and on.
Check your Corporate Sync settings (see Q2).
Check with other users of the same smartphone to see if they are having the same trouble.
Take your phone to your service provider to see if they can assist you.


Q6. Will I be charged for using email on my smartphone?
You should work with your service provider to determine if your data plan covers receiving email to your smartphone.

Q7. Should I put a password on my smartphone?
Yes, a password is strongly recommended - University policy requires employee to protect private sensitive or confidential data. Failure to properly protect access to your ISU email from your smart phone could expose confidential information and result in personal legal liability.
