Sycamore Technology Solutions Consultant

All students who accept the position will become a consultant for Sycamore Technology Solutions – a student managed and operated company. You will be responsible for meeting the technological needs of non-profit agencies located in the Wabash Valley, specifically with agencies affiliated with the United Way of the Wabash Valley.

Responsibilities may include:

Make on-site visits to agencies to talk with members about current hardware, software, and networking issues; and will seek to learn about their future technology direction/goals. Work collectively together to tailor a set of technology support services that would assist an agency in meeting its goals thereby bringing added value to the Wabash Valley and communities they serve. Examples of services provided: website hosting, assistance with hardware and software, technology problem solving, technology plans/proposal development, technology literacy, and training.

Additional duties may include:

Ability to track multiple projects and client contact activities. Create and/or edit client and technical documentation. Perform hardware and/or software installations and support. Design and administration of various databases. Develop and maintain web pages, and coordination of domain name registration and hosting. LAN design and implementation.

Examples of projects:

Design and administration of databases; website development and/or maintenance; LAN design and implementation; installation and maintenance of hardware - computers and peripherals, server, and printers. Projects do crossover into different areas of technology to utilize multiple areas of knowledge and expertise.

Requirements:

Must be junior or senior in Computer Science, Electronics and Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other computer-related majors.
Currently have at least a 2.5 GPA overall, and a 2.9 in major.
For fall/spring semesters must commit to 20 hours per week, in minimum 4 hour blocks for the period of the program. For summer, must commit to full-time 37.5 hours per week for at least 8 weeks.
Driving to different non-profit organizations may be required. A university vehicle will be provided or travel will be reimbursed for driving a personally owned vehicle.

Duties will normally be performed between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, but may periodically require work outside these hours.
