Is Banner the only place that I can change my Banner password?
- Yes. Banner is based on an Oracle DBMS. The only vehicle available for changing the password is a specially designed form within Banner. The form is GUAPSWD. Systems that access Banner data using ODBC will simply inform the user that the password is expired. The non-Banner software packages listed above use ODBC to access Banner data. MS Access is the only software that appears to give you the option of entering a new password as it is pre-built into the system. However, it is only valid for Access databases and does not work for changing the Banner password.
How do I change my Banner password?
- You can change your Oracle (Banner) password by logging into Banner and going to form GUAPSWD. As will most password change mechanisms, you will be required to supply your current password and to enter the new password twice. If you also utilize the STBY database instance for reporting, keep in mind that the new password will not feed into STBY until the next refresh time.
Can I change my Banner password before the 90 days have elapsed?
- Yes. Changing a Banner password is recommended for those individuals in offices that run automated processes.
Will changing my Banner account password affect my Novell password?
- No.The Banner account password is not linked to your Novell password.
Will changing my Banner account password affect my Sycamore password?
- No.The Banner account password is not linked to your Sycamore password.
How often is a Banner account password required to change?
- Every 90 days.
I just changed my password on Banner PROD and I can’t get into STBY. What’s wrong?
- New passwords that are done in PROD will not feed into STBY until the next refresh time. STBY refreshes are done at 6AM and 6PM each day.
Can I use a Banner account password that I have used previously?
- The system does not allow you to use the same password until it has not been used for 270 days (9 months).
What are the length requirements for a Banner account password?
- The minimum length is 8.
- The maximum length is 32.
Are there any special requirements for a Banner account password?
- Yes.All Banner account passwords require the following characteristics.
- Passwords must start with an alphabetic character.
- A minimum of one special character must be used in a new password.
- Special characters recommended: + - _
- Some special characters may not work properly with specific applications.
- A minimum of one numeric character must be used in a new password.
- New passwords must differ from the current password by at least 3 characters.
Are there restrictions on the number of Banner login attempts?
- Yes; after 5 unsuccessful login attempts, your Banner account is locked.
What do I do if my Banner account becomes locked?
- You must contact the Help Desk at 2910
- You can create your own Help Desk ticket via MyISU.
