Dave Pifer, Network Engineer
Bob Depasse, Network EngineerThis small group of staff and students works with telecommunications services and video engineering services to develop and implement all campus network configurations. Network research, equipment specifications, and upgrade proposal are developed based on projections of user needs.
The campus network equipment includes 2 large Cisco router/switches and more than 50 smaller switches connecting more than 40 virtual subnets. Traffic rides on miles of fiber between buildings and copper within buildings. Interserver connectivity is 100mbps per connection. The campus data network is extended to Family Housing units and Union Hospital through a metro-lan currently rated at 10mbps.
ATM technology is used for video networking to support distance education classrooms and satellite feed distribution. IP-based video traffic is carried by the data network.
