Minimum Guidelines For Secure Passwords

On October 15, 2008 ISU will begin enforcing strong passwords per “Use of Passwords Policy” located in the University Handbook (revised copy August 2003) Section V, pages V-17 at http://www1.indstate.edu/oit1/tis/securitypolicy.html.

To minimize impact, if your password does not have the following characteristics you should change it prior to October 15, 2008.  To reset your password please visit https://isuportal.indstate.edu/password/ResetPassword and follow the prompts.

The following is the minimum standards that passwords must meet beginning October 15, 2008:

 ·         Password minimum length is 8 characters (maximum of 29 characters)

 ·         Password must contain at least one numeric character

 ·         Password must contain at least one uppercase character

 ·         Password must contain at least one lowercase character

 ·         Password must be changed every 180 days

 Important note: Do not use the following special characters when creating your password as it there could be incompatibilities with some of ISU’s internal systems

·         Space # ~ ^ * ? , : ; | " < >@$& () <>' =

To change your password go to https://myisu.indstate.edu and select the "Forgot/Change Your Password?" under the login box, then follow the prompts.
