Security Bulletin for Internet Explorer

December  19, 2001:   Microsoft released a security patch to plug a hole in its Web browser that could allow hackers to steal passwords and trick people into downloading virulent files. Microsoft said customers using Internet Explorer versions 5.5 and 6.0 should install the patch immediately. The patch, released Thursday, can be found on Microsoft's Web site here:

December  19, 2001:   W32.Gokar.A@mm is a mass-mailing worm. The worm can spread its infection by email using Microsoft Outlook. The email can come from addresses that you will recognize. Attached is a file with a name that is randomly generated. The subject of the email is picked randomly from a predefined list.

W32.Goner.A@mm

December  4, 2001:   W32.Goner.A@mm is a mass-mailing worm. The worm can spread its infection using the ICQ network as well as by email using Microsoft Outlook. If mIRC is installed, this worm can also insert mIRC scripts that will enable the computer to be used in Denial of Service (DOS) attacks.

Security Bulletin for Excel and Power Point

October 5, 2001:   Microsoft has found a flaw in Excel and PowerPoint that allows a document containing macros to be opened without first warning the user of the presence of macros.

Fix_Nimda.exe Hoax/Virus

October 1, 2001:   There is a possible virus going around advertising that it is a fix for the Nimda virus, it contains the attachment fix_nimda.exe. See the above link for further details.

September 7, 2001:   W32.Magistr.B@mm - is an Internet worm that is sent in an email with varying subject headings, body text, and attachments. The body of the message is derived from the contents of other files on the victim's computer.

September 5, 2001:   W32.Apost.Worm@mm - is an Internet worm that spreads using email. It sends email messages to addresses it gathers from the Windows address books, which are used by mail clients such as Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express.
