Malicious worm aims to bite Apple [From the BBC]
"The malicious program, known as Leap-A,
tries to spread via Apple's iChat instant messaging program.
The worm disguises itself as images of Apple's forthcoming version of
its operating system, called Leopard, and plunders buddy lists if
installed.
Security firms said Leap-A was not widespread and was unlikely to catch
out many Apple users.
No threat
The malicious program tries to trick users into installing it and does
not exploit any security holes in Apple's OS X operating system. It
travels in a file called "latestpics.tgz" and only version 10.4 of OS X
is vulnerable to it..."

A new variant of virus could prove damaging if not cleaned before the
third of every month
A new set of virus variants (MyWife, KamaSutra, Nyxem and/or Blackmal)
have been created to destroy documents and files of many popular file
types, among them Microsoft Office files and Adobe Acrobat files.
Documents stored on the hard drives of infected computers as well as
network shared drives the computer has access to are at risk.
It is imperative that you update your virus scanner as well as run a
full system scan as soon as possible to be certain that you are not
infected with one of these virus variants. Please contact the OIT Help

Subject of: We attached some important information regarding your
account.
If you receive an email
like the one above, it is not a legitimate email from OIT or ISU in
general.
It has a ZIP file attachment of sgdvdy.zip (which is a virus package).
With an address of just MAIL, it looks valid, but it is a HOAX.

Instant Messenger Viruses
OIT has seen a number of student computers that were infected with a
virus that was transmitted via AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). There are
known viruses for all Instant Message protocols.
You should be wary of clicking on links in profiles and instant messages
(IMs), even from people that you know.
Once a computer is infected with an IM virus, that computer will seek to
infect others. It may send Instant Messages to everyone on your buddy
list which include a Web page link. This link will then infect the
recipient with the virus if they click on the link.
